Corner Drug Store has been a staple of Sackville New Brunswick for many years and has an exciting history! The land was the site of a small shop that was built in 1857. In 1875, the building was extended and raised to 3 stories, and opened as a pharmacy. Other parts of the building contained stores, offices, and a hall used by community groups, meetings, and as a band room for the Sackville Citizens Band.
The building continued to operate as a pharmacy under various names until 1923 when the pharmacy name was changed to the “Corner Drug Store”, and remained a pharmacy until 1992.
In August 2006, the building was destroyed by fire and demolished. During the reconstruction of the building, owner Charles Beaver saw the location as an opportunity to once again bring the Corner Drug Store back to Sackville. In 2009, the Corner Drug Store (Guardian) was re-opened, and continues the tradition going back to 1875 of having a pharmacy on the Ground floor.
Says Charles, “We enjoy giving friendly, personal service to every person who comes through our doors, so we take the time to get to know our customers. That’s the beauty of a small town and a small pharmacy and that’s why we love it here.”
Fun fact: The Corner Drug Store was the first pharmacy in Canada to sell Karen Phytoplankton.
